A man has been arrested after a bike was stolen during a knife point robbery in Swindon.

An electric bike was taken from a member of the public at around 11pm on Tuesday, July 18, during a robbery in which the suspect was allegedly armed with a knife.

Police were able to locate the bike, which had been equipped with a tracker, at a property in Newton Way, Penhill, where they arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of robbery.

He remains in custody for questioning, while the bike has now been returned to the victim.

Sgt Nathan Martin, of the Local Policing Tasking Team, said: “This was excellent work by officers, and I’m pleased that we were able to return the bike to the victim within hours of the robbery occurring.

“The incident is a reminder of the importance of taking security measures around your bike, such as using a tracker or getting your bike marked.

“The tracker in this case enabled officers to rapidly locate the bike and arrest the offender, while getting your bike security marked can act as an effective, visible deterrent to bike thieves when you have parked your bike somewhere.”

Bike frame numbers can also be registered on a national database to help police track the owners of stolen vehicles.
