A comedian who has featured on BBC’s Live at the Apollo has vowed to see the sights of Swindon when he plays the town later this year.

Scott Bennett has been performing stand-up for years and is bringing his ‘Great Scott!’ tour to the town.

Having performed in Swindon previously supporting others, the comedian will headline the Swindon Arts Centre on Sunday, October 8.

In his previous Wiltshire visits, Scott has had to set off home early so is now looking forward to being able to spend some time out and about in the town.

“You never really go to Swindon as you see it and pass it on the motorway,” he said.

“Part of the excitement of touring is finding out about the place and what there is to do which is the joy of doing it.

“It was like an SAS job last time so this time, I’m going to get there early and have a little wander, see the sights of Swindon."

The 44-year-old took recommendations and sounded keen on trying Los Gatos tapas restaurant in Old Town.

“I might check it out as I tend to eat carefully before a gig as I’m at the age where acid reflux is a common problem,” said Scott.

“The last thing I need is to be on stage, halfway through a joke and thinking that those patatas bravas were really nice now that’s repeating on me.

“I’m really looking forward to coming down to Swindon.”

Scott, from Pontefract, has previously played sets at the Old Town Comedy Club at The Hop Inn and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“It was a little room but a really lovely gig and I did that a couple of times,” he said.

“This is the first time that I have done a solo show at Swindon so I am very excited.”

The comedian has starred on Live at the Apollo in recent years which was a dream come true for the Yorkshireman.

“It was a surreal and amazing experience and you have to pinch yourself and enjoy the massive moment,” said Scott.

“It feels like a nod that all of the work you’re putting in has been noticed and that you’re moving in the right direction.

“I was terrified because it means a lot but it was a great moment that I will never forget.”

Scott will perform his gig at the headline the Swindon Arts Centre at 7.30pm on Sunday, October 8, with tickets priced at £18 and available here.
