A community fitness centre will soon reopen in a new location after having to leave its former home.

In May, the team in charge of Scrappers Gym announced that they had just six weeks to find a new place to provide fitness sessions for people with disabilities and poor mental health.

Originally set up in the old West Swindon Farepak Hampers building in 2011, the group of volunteer coaches had worked out of the back of the 24Hr Gym on Langley Road since 2013.

The project, managed by the Swindon Children's Scrapstore, has supported more than 25,000 five-to-24-year-olds and more than 30,000 adults in the Swindon area during the last 12 years.

The gym has been closed for the last two months while volunteers urgently sought out a suitable site, which they hoped would have at least 2,000 square feet of space and be on the ground floor.

The Scrappers Facebook page announced that the gym would reopen at its new premises in two weeks' time and more details will be revealed soon.

A spokesperson said: "We are looking forward to welcoming all our service users back.

"We really appreciate all the help and support we have received over the past few months.

"Thank you from all the Scrappers Gym Team."
