Speeding drivers in Swindon have been caught speeding by the police.

Officers from the North, East and Rural neighbourhood team set up at various locations in that area of Swindon on Tuesday (September 5).

Three roads were targeted by the speed checks - Wanborough Road, Purley Road and Eldene Drive.

And while the speed guns were active, seven traffic offence reports were issued to drivers which will result in a speed awareness course, points and a fine, or a summons to court.

But on top of this, a further 48 drivers were "provided with suitable words of advice  regarding their speed".

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson then confirmed the force's commitment to cracking down on dangerous driving within the town.

This continues an ongoing campaign from Wiltshire Police to focus on what it considers to be the 'fatal five' road traffic offences.

As well as speeding, this includes not wearing a seatbelt, drunk and drug driving and using a mobile phone while behind the wheel.

To deter this behaviour, police have carried out a number of targeted operations on the roads of Swindon and Wiltshire.
