A Boeing B-52 Stratofortress soared over Swindon at around 11.55am on Thursday.

Our eagle-eyed Swindon and Wiltshire Camera Club members soon spotted the strategic bomber flying above their heads and quickly snapped a few pics.

This photograph was taken above Upham Road.

One photographer claimed to have seen two of the impressive American aircraft flying over Trowbridge earlier that same morning.

Another member said that the noise of the jets drowned out the sounds of the Zoom meeting they were in at the time of the flypast.

The reason for the impressive plane's brief visit to Wiltshire is not known, though the aircraft did appear at this year's Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in July.

The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is an American long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber that has been operated by the United States Air Force since the 1950s.

The bomber can carry up to 32,000 kg of weapons and can fly for around 8,800 miles without needing any aerial refuelling.

Around 744 of them were built between 1952 and 1956, with upgrades and support provided by Boeing during the decades that followed.
