It's not every day you get to personally meet the next King of England.

And promising boxer Jess Bryden said she was all nerves when she shook hands with the Prince of Wales who visited charity BEST in Swindon earlier today.

But that didn't stop her from offering the heir to the throne to a quick sparring session in the boxing ring at the charity's base in Dorcan.

Despite standing at an imposing 6ft 3ins, Prince William politely and perhaps wisely declined, having just seen the 18-year-old go through her paces with her trainer ringside.

So instead of going toe-to-toe the Royal and Jess had a heart-to-heart about how the charity has helped turn her life around.

Swindon Advertiser:

"For me, it was my family. I have always had my dad at my side," she told him.

"And then boxing also gave me a purpose, and a positive reason to wake up in the mornings."

Speaking after her chat, Jess was beaming.

"Oh my gosh I was so nervous. It was such a privilege, he'll be my future King one day!" she said.

Speaking previously about her involvement with the charity, Jess said she had started going down the wrong path at the age of 12.

"I was in school and I just got mixed up in the wrong crowds. It got worse and I started taking drugs, which then led to County lines.

"I was so young, I just had no idea what I was actually involved in at that point," she said.

At the age of 14 she attempted to overdose and take her own life, and that was when her father intervened. He took her to stay with her Aunt in Wales for six weeks and helped her to turn her life around.

Swindon Advertiser:

Jess was introduced to boxing as a way of finding her purpose, and tomorrow she will compete in Sheffield at the national championships.

"I'm hoping for the Olympics one day and I might represent William's team as GB, so it will be an honour to meet him," she said.
