WORK is now underway to improve the walking route from Swindon train station to the Railway Village.

It had previously been announced that London Street and Sheppard Street would receive £3m worth of improvements, and that work started on September 25.

As part of this work, the pavement in front of the Carriage Works will be widened, trees will be planted, and the space outside the Bristol Street tunnel will be improved with new railings and planting

Additional trees will be planted in Sheppard Street and a pocket park will be created outside the Sheppard Street underpass, which links North Star with the town centre

Both underpasses will see drainage improvements with a new creative lighting design for Sheppard Street underpass, making the space feel lighter and safer.

The work is funded by the Government's Towns Fund and is being undertaken by Fergal Contracting Co. Ltd.

It is expected to continue until early 2024.

The road will remain open for the majority of the works, with nighttime closures for resurfacing at the end of the project. The underpasses will also remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.
