A police investigation has been launched into allegations of a £64 million fraud at a law firm with an office in Swindon.

Axiom Ince had an office located in Edison Business Park before it was closed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, and its clients transferred to another law firm.

Three top executives including the firm's managing partner, Pragnesh Modhwadia, were suspended by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) in August, according to The Times. The other two were Shyam Mistry and Idnan Liaqat.

The Metropolitan Police has since confirmed it has launched an investigation following allegations of a £64 million fraud.

Met Police said: “We are aware of a report made by the Solicitor Regulation Authority. Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime have launched an investigation and enquiries are ongoing.”

When attempting to access Axiom Ince’s website a message is shown stating that its offices  have been closed by the SRA.

A spokesman for the regulator told the Law Gazette: “We are in regular contact with the directors of Axiom to make sure it can meet its regulatory duties, including working in the best interests of its clients."

The spokesman added that, while Axiom continued to trade, partners have said that “it will likely be unable to continue in its current format”.
