Two local authors are preparing to document Swindon Town’s illustrious history in a brand new book.

Hannah Dosanjh and Gilly Gray are in the process of creating the football book which will be aimed at children.

‘The Glorious History of Swindon Town Football Club’ is to be released in February 2024 and will feature illustrations by Hannah.

Making the club’s history accessible to younger fans is the duo’s aim with the new book as they hope to inspire the next generation.

“The book will have plenty of pictures to appeal to young children who can’t yet read but really interesting facts to appeal to older readers too,” said Hannah.

“We recognise that being introduced to football when young by a family member is how a lot of people become fans.

“The book will of course cover the famous League Cup win versus Arsenal in 1969 and Town’s Premier League season in the 1990s amongst other periods.”

Hannah recently got into football and has been regularly visiting the County Ground ever since.

She even painted a mural to honour the club’s legends on Carfax Street which was visited by former player Chris Kamara.

“I am a football newbie and I can’t believe how addictive it is! I keep checking the scores and seeing where we are in the league table,” said Hannah.

“I get really stressed on matchdays which is funny because I am not from a footballing family at all but better late than never.

Both Gilly and Hannah need help from Town fans with their research for the new book with photographs required.

“Please can people get in touch if they have photographs from the 1970s, 80s and 90s as I have quite a gap from that time period,” said Hannah.

“I need pictures of the Robinettes as well as the man that was dressed as a moonraker.

“Memories are quite useful but people forget that it is for children so I need the small details to help set the scene.”

The 32-page book will be Hannah’s second after ‘A Railway Town Called Swindon’ which was released in 2022.

“I am illustrating the moments of the club’s history but I need access to photographs to ensure that rings true to the past,” she added.

“It takes hours to illustrate and the process is far longer than the writing itself but I relish the challenge and I’m itching to get started.”
