Val Phillips, 43, administrator. I have done several Walk the Walk events and raised money over the last two years to make a contribution to finding a cure for breast cancer. Like many members of our group I also feel it's a great way to get fit and you meet some fab people along the way.

Joy Lyons-Hay, 44, PA at Zurich Financial Services. I lost my brother-in-law John to cancer last April which made me realise even more how awful a disease it is - I can't imagine suffering that much pain, it would be amazing to find a cure. Also doing something for yourself fitness-wise is such a great way to raise money.

Philippa (Pippa) Thorne, 35, corporation tax manager. Raising awareness of cancer and funds for cancer research, and to get fit and socialise with an inspiring collection of women.

Jane Lane, 62, just retired. Primarily to fund research into breast cancer and help those suffering and their families who support them. Secondly to get healthier and see both town and countryside. It's a fantastic way of keeping fit and making friends.

Jacqueline Kirwan, 52, school health nurse. I am the age my mother was when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Twenty-five years ago there was more stigma to the disease and sadly my mother was either too frightened or thought it couldn't happen to her, to report it. When she did finally go to the doctor, she had to have radical treatment once the diagnosis was made, but she did not live for long even with the treatment. My reason for doing the events is to help raise awareness so other women will seek help as soon as they notice anything different. Treatment can then be given as soon as possible to greatly improve their chance of survival. She is still greatly missed and never had the opportunity to see her grandchildren.

Alison Lowe, 40, headteacher. I did the Moonwalk last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Also part of the Breakthrough group in Wiltshire.

Sheena McAdam, 42, stay at home mum. I started walking last year with a friend who was training for the Moonwalk. Since then I have been walking twice a week, usually along the Ridgeway which is just beautiful. I've enjoyed it so much I decided to put my walking to good use and raise some money while out having fun.

The team aim to raise more than £3,000 in total for Breast Cancer Research.
