A Swindon borough road has closed for at least a week following a significant water leak.

Cricklade Road in Highworth is now subject to an emergency closure on Monday afternoon after the outburst occurred, rendering the Highworth to Blunsdon Road route unusable.

Thames Water are currently on site and Swindon Borough Council has warned that the road is likely to remain closed for the whole week.

The council also asked the public to stay away from the area if possible while maintenance work is undertaken by the water company.

“Access will be maintained to properties located within the closure area and a diversion route is being put in place for all other traffic.
