A Swindon borough road has closed for at least a week following a significant water leak.
Cricklade Road in Highworth is now subject to an emergency closure on Monday afternoon after the outburst occurred, rendering the Highworth to Blunsdon Road route unusable.
Thames Water are currently on site and Swindon Borough Council has warned that the road is likely to remain closed for the whole week.
The council also asked the public to stay away from the area if possible while maintenance work is undertaken by the water company.
Thames Water themselves are expected to remain onsite until Wednesday, October 11 according to the council’s website.
A SBC statement posted on social media said: “Due to a significant water leak, Cricklade Road in Highworth is currently closed.
“Thames Water are on site and the road is expected to remain closed until at least the end of the week while they complete repairs.
“Access will be maintained to properties located within the closure area and a diversion route is being put in place for all other traffic.
“Please avoid the area if you can.”
