Sports Direct have fixed an embarrassing typo that was published on their stationery kits.

The high street brand had been mocked by shoppers after a comical spelling mistake was spotted on their back-to-school stationery kits, being sold as "stationary” kits.

Stationary is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as “not moving or not intended to be moved,” while the definition of stationery is “writing and other office materials".

Social media users have since suggested bosses at the sportswear giant should go back to school themselves following the blunder.

One person posted pictures of the kits on Twitter and said: "I think the sales department of Sports Direct needs to go back to school.

"A stationary pack of stationery items."

Another commented: "Well, those won't be going anywhere in a hurry."

A third web user said: "Maybe they called it stationary because it's going to remain on the shelves? Who's actually buying Sports Direct stationery?"

The error has since been given a quick fix in the Swindon branch located on Regent Street in the town centre though.

Where the kit previously read “stationary”, a sticky label has been stuck across each of the kits with the correct spelling.

Despite this, a peeling of the sticker will still reveal the blunder made by Mike Ashley’s company.
