Swindon has been named as one of the worst nights out in the UK - but it has still been rated higher than London.

The study by Get Licensed analysed the number of venues per head, the cost of a pint and a range of safety issues to reveal the worst nights out in Britain.

Swindon was ranked ninth worst in the country for its nightlife, despite it having several nightclubs such as Tree and Kioki in Old Town and Power Lounge in the town centre.

With live music venues and pubs such as The Victoria pub and the Tuppenny in Old Town, the town’s nightlife is certainly far from quiet.

The average pint of beer cost £5.68 while the percentage of fear over being mugged was a low 41 per cent in comparison with the rest of the worst ten.

Despite its lowly ranking, Swindon did manage to triumph over the likes of Gloucester, Birmingham and London, the latter of which was voted the worst.

“The data we used for the number of bars and clubs were taken from Tripadvisor, while the number of pubs close to each location was taken from CAMRA’s whatpub.com,” said a Get Licensed spokesperson.

“We compared this data to the populations of each town and city using data from World Population Review.”
