NATIONAL door and window-fitting company Safestyle UK's office in Swindon now sits empty following the company's collapse.

Since then the firm's regional office in Dorcan's Edison Park has sat quiet and empty.

Any attempt to ring the office's number reaches a message that simply states: "Our offices are closed."

It is believed that 680 employees have lost their jobs, with a further 70 employees kept on for now to assist with the administration process.

Inside the building, personal belongings can still be seen on desks, alongside trophies, Safestyle branded items and even a full-size snooker table, but none of the lights are on and no one has been there.

It is understood that staff received a text message on Friday, October 27, reportedly from Safestyle CEO Rob Neale instructing them to down tools and that further information would be provided on Monday.

It said: "I promised to update you all as soon I had more news to share. I regret to inform you that our discussions have been unsuccessful and that all parties have now withdrawn their respective interest in purchasing the business.

"The Board of HPAS has therefore concluded that it is no longer able to continue trading as a going concern and has filed notice of intention to appoint administrators to HPAS. I appreciate that you will all be anxious to know what this means, particularly in terms of payments."

Staff were then told on Monday morning that they were being made redundant.

The appointed administrators Interpath Advisory also released a public statement letting customers know that their orders would not be fulfilled.

Other companies have stepped in to do what they can to help customers in the lurch, including Swindon-based NexGen Windows.

A spokesperson for the company said: "We are aware that a major window and door company has unfortunately ceased trading and called in administrators. This will of course have a knock on affect to many customers and staff locally (with them having a large office based in Swindon).

"For customers locally who have been affected by the sudden closure, we are on hand to try and help where possible. We can offer advice on issues with fitted products and help with remedial work where possible.

"For anyone who has placed an order and paid a deposit, we are offering to waive survey fees to avoid losing out and we can still fit before Christmas.
