MYSTERY surrounds this picture found by a Swindon pensioner.

It depicts a happy wedding scene of a smiling bride holding her bouquet and her newly-wed husband in his Navy apparel.

Three bridesmaids, including a young girl, are also seen in the snap, which looks as if it has been taken outside a Swindon church.

A man in a smart suit also looks on to form the seven-person scene.

It was discovered by 78-year-old Taff Roberts last week.

"I found it in my garden shed," said Taff, of Richmond Road, Rodbourne Cheney.

"I was clearing out some stuff looking for an old picture frame.

"I found a tatty landscape country scene print and I removed the old brown paper from the back.

"Then this wedding picture was folded up.

"I thought it was just another bit of card but when I opened it I could see this wedding scene.

"I've no idea who the couple are or any of the guests.

"One of the men could be from the Fleet Air Arm.

"I would have thought someone in Swindon must know whose these people are.

"It could be someone's grandmother or grandfather."

"I think it would be intriguing if we can find out something more about it.

"They all look very happy and I'm sure a relative would want to get hold of it and treasure it as a piece of family history.

"I know the Advertiser has published pictures before looking for clues and this might help.

"Lots of church doors look the same but I think it might be St Mark's Church in Church Place.

"It just seems to be quite familiar although I may be wrong and stand corrected.

"It's difficult to judge when this picture was taken.

"It could have been during the war years or even early 1950s.

"It's really hard to name a date but one of the Advertiser's readers may well be able to say when it was and who they are."

If you recognise the couple and can shed any light on the mystery then the Advertiser would like to hear from you.
