Elderly couple threaten to go to police over meal at Brewers Fayre

Madeline and Michael Aldridge visited the Kembrey Inn Brewers Fayre on a trip to the town from Mansfield, whilst they were collecting items from the house of a friend that had recently passed away.

The Aldridges both ordered the ‘Chicken and Ribs Combo’ during their visit on October 25, which includes half a rack of ribs, a breast of chicken, chips, salad and corn on the cob for £15.69.

They say they informed the server that they were both allergic to chicken and therefore requested a full rack of ribs instead, and claim their server said that this was possible.

When their food arrived they were disappointed to only find half a rack of ribs each with no chicken. They have said that the meal as a whole was of very poor quality and that the salad was missing.

Madeline, 88, said: “I hate people taking advantage of anybody, particularly senior citizens and I hate that they have, and we have been robbed.

“It is theft by stealth.

“I am going to take this to trading standards and if nothing happens, then I will go to the police”.

A spokesperson for the Brewers Fayre said: “The guest attempted to order an old item from the menu – a full rack of ribs, which we no longer serve. The alternative was the chicken and rib combo which the guest said she did not want the chicken.

“On being told that she could purchase an extra half rack of ribs for £4.99 the guest declined to pay. 

“When the half rack of ribs was served (which was the dish she paid for) at that point the guest then said she had wanted the whole rack after all and that she had an allergy to chicken, which she did not make the team aware of despite being asked when ordering.”

But Madeline and Michael dispute this account of events.

In response to Brewers Fayre, Michael, 79, said: “I am very disappointed.

“I am totally disgusted, I was looking forward to a rack of ribs and what I got was disgusting.

“I won’t say anything else as I will lose my temper."
