A SEA of umbrellas filled Regent Circus in Swindon as crowds gathered to pay their respects during the town's Remembrance Sunday event.

In stark contrast to last year's sunny affair, this year's ceremony was subject to a dismal drizzle, but this was nowhere near enough to stop the people of Swindon from attending.

In fact, there was barely room to move in the town centre as people first lined the streets for a parade from Granville Street car park to the Regent Circus Cenotaph, and then gathered shoulder-to-shoulder for the service.

After this, dignitaries from Swindon including mayor Barbara Parry were joined by veterans, the heads of Wiltshire Police and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue service.

The two Swindon MPs Robert Buckland and Justin Tomlinson also attended alongside representatives from both Swindon Borough Council and the various parish councils in the town who laid wreaths.
