A man has been accused of sending "emails and threats" to a Swindon MP over the ongoing crisis in Israel and Gaza.
Feras Al-Jayoosi has been remanded in custody after being charged with stalking Conservative MP Justin Tomlinson.
The defendant, of Barnum Court, was arrested by counter-terrorism police on Thursday, November 23 on suspicion of sending threats to the MP for North Swindon.
Al-Jayoosi was subsequently charged with stalking and an unrelated offence of criminal damage.
The 26-year-old appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning but only spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, alleged that Al-Jayoosi “sent emails and threats made to the Member of Parliament over the issues in Israel and Gaza”.
He said the communication caused Mr Tomlinson “serious concern”.
Legal advisor Sangit Purewal advised the bench that only the Chief Magistrate can deal with the case due to its nature.
Ian Jobling, defending, said he was not making an application for bail.
The magistrates remanded Al-Jayoosi in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 29.
Mr Tomlinson's office has been contacted for comment by The Adver.
