A woman in her 50s was killed in a crash involving multiple vehicles on a busy Wiltshire A-road.

The incident, which the fire service says involved three cars and one HGV, happened on the A350 on the outskirts of Chippenham at around 4.45pm on Friday (December 1).

The road between the Chequers roundabout and Lackham College roundabout was closed overnight and into Saturday morning.

A woman died at the scene, Wiltshire Police has confirmed, while two other people were hospitalised and treated for minor injuries.

Police posted on Facebook: "Her next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time."

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 4.51pm today following reports of a road traffic collision on the A350 W Cepen Way. 

“Crews from Chippenham and Corsham were mobilised to the scene and on arrival found a collision involving three cars and one heavy goods vehicle.

"The stop came in at 6.11pm.”

Police are appealing for information about the incident and are urging members of the public to contact the serious collision investigation team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 189 if you saw anything or have dashcam footage.
