A car dealership has provided an update after a major fire broke out at its Swindon base.

Fire crews were on the scene at the Audi showroom at Delta Business Park in West Swindon after a fire broke out just after 9.30pm on Friday, December 1.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service warned residents of smoke coming from the area in a post on X, but did not disclose whether there had been any casualties. It later said the cause of the fire was accidental and involved an electric vehicle in the workshop.

The showroom was shut the following day due to what the business described in a Facebook post as “unforeseen circumstances”.

Now, Audi has spoken out about the incident which left their showroom in flames.

“Following a thermal incident at Inchcape Audi’s Swindon operation on Friday we are in the process of working with local authorities to understand the cause," said a spokesperson for Audi UK.

"We can confirm that following work undertaken during the night, the site is secure and no one has been injured.

"We would like to thank the emergency services and the various support agencies for their hard work and support to contain the damage.

"The business is closed temporarily, and we continue to support the team and communicate with our customers throughout this period.”
