A man has been charged after several police cars descended on a residential street last week.

The man will appear in court next month to face charges of driving without due care and attention.

Residents reported seeing six police cars descend on Whitehead Street in the town centre on Friday afternoon (December 1).

They added that a police officer was injured in the incident.

Now, Wiltshire Police have confirmed that Guilherme Elias Miguel Santos, 24, has been charged with two counts of driving a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road without due care and attention and one count of assault by beating.

The defendant, of Whitehead Street, has now been bailed and will appear at Swindon Magistrates Court on January 2.

After the incident, a police officer was seen taking details of a delivery bike on the scene, although it is unknown whether this is connected to this incident.
