A major Wiltshire road was closed overnight following a crash which saw the driver disappear.

The incident occurred at around 12.05am on Thursday morning, after a single-vehicle crash on the M4 near Swindon’s Junction 15.

Having been closed in both directions, the westbound route was reopened shortly after the crash.

The eastbound carriageway was left closed to allow for recovery of the vehicle.

At the time, a National Highways spokesperson said: “Traffic has been stopped in both directions on the M4 in Wiltshire within J15, Swindon, due to a Wiltshire Police-led incident."

Police attended but no driver could be found at the scene.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson added: “The driver is currently outstanding and our enquiries are ongoing.”
