There are major delays and cancellations to trains through Swindon on Friday morning as a result of an incident near London Paddington.

Overhead electric wires were damaged outside of London Paddington on Thursday, December 8.

All trains between London and Reading were cancelled to allow emergency services to deal with the incident. Many trains are delayed or cancelled whilst repairs are carried out, including those going to and from Swindon.

The GWR website is showing multiple delays and cancellations to trains at Swindon train station. Trains going to London Paddington, Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central have been cancelled with delays to Gloucester and Swansea.Swindon Advertiser:

One train to Paddington was delayed due to a lorry colliding with a bridge.

The National Rail website has informed members of the public that lines have reopened however there is still major disruption to and from London Paddington. These delays are expected until 3pm.

The incident was first reported at 6.57pm.

A Network Rail spokesperson told the BBC: "We are so sorry for the difficult journeys passengers endured on our railway last night and we will be investigating how and why it happened.

"The knock-on effects from last night mean operators will not be able to run a full service from Paddington today and passengers should check before they travel.

"Repairs are ongoing and we hope to have the railway fully open by the weekend."
