Police have issued a warning to any potentially “disruptive” groups ahead of a planned car meet in Swindon.

Officers believe people have been looking to arrange a car meet in Swindon on the evening of Saturday, December 16.

Those planning to attend have been warned that a “proportionate policing presence” will be in place during any potential event.

This comes amidst fears that some groups are “deliberately disruptive and cause significant concern” for local communities, say police.

In a statement on Facebook, Wiltshire Police emphasised that genuine car enthusiasts meet lawfully and in a manner that does not upset nearby residents.

But they added that anybody planning to cause disruption will be dealt with “robustly.”

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers are aware of people looking to arrange a car meet in Swindon this evening.

“Anybody taking part in disruptive car meets in Wiltshire should know that it will not be tolerated and those involved will be dealt with robustly.

“We have specialist police and partnership resources to support this approach, if required.”

Police did not reveal where or what time any planned meet had been arranged for.
