Police officers have revealed they dealt with more than 200 motoring offences in Swindon in just one day.

Several vehicles were seized for licence and insurance offences as the force cracked down on those driving illegally.

In a joint operation between Roads Policing Officers and Speed Enforcement Officers in the town on Wednesday, December 13, 207 motoring offences were detected.

Of these, 180 drivers were dealt with for driving at excess speed, with one driver caught driving at 62mph in a 40mph limit along Queens Drive.

A further vehicle was stopped by the Specials Road Safety Unit conducting an overtake manoeuvre and driving at 69mph in a 30mph limit in Malmesbury.

Acting Inspector Will Ayres said: “These are ridiculous speeds for these roads – the speed limit is there for a reason and should be adhered to at all times.

“At this time of year, the roads are busier than usual and driving in this manner is putting yourself and others at risk of serious injury or death.

“Our team will continue to cover the county targeting those individuals most likely to cause serious harm on our roads.”

Every Wednesday, officers descend on one town in the county targeting drivers committing any of the fatal five offences as part of Project Zero.
