A popular Wroughton pub has been placed up for sale by the brewery that owns it.

The Grade II-listed White Hart on Wroughton High Street is managed and owned by Butcombe Brewery, but the firm is looking to offload the property.

The pub - which boasts a distinctive thatched roof - is now currently listed on Rightmove for £925,000 under agents Sprosen Ltd.

The listing says: "The White Hart is located in the heart of the busy village of Wroughton.

"Wroughton has a population of between 4,000 and 5,000 and therefore offers a strong local following for local hospitality businesses.

"The business is extremely convenient for the M4 motorway as it is situated only a few miles from both Junctions 15 and 16, therefore it is an ideal stop-off point for hotel residents.

"The huge commercial conurbation of Swindon is only 2.5 miles away and The White Hart enjoys good relationships with other local businesses for staff get-togethers, team meetings and client entertaining.

"The historic town of Marlborough is about 11 miles to the south and the World Heritage Site at Avebury is 7 miles away."

The building comprises of two detached buildings - the pub and restaurant are situated in a 19th-century partly thatched building and the thatch has been recently replaced.

The letting block - which features ten bedrooms - is situated in a separate detached construction built around 7 years ago, it is understood.

Concerns were raised about the pub's listing on a Wroughton Community Facebook page - with many praising the pub for its recent improvements.

But Butcombe Brewery general manager Graham Warrallo commented to reassure customers.

He said: "Everything is going to be amazing please do not worry, keep supporting and we will keep giving you an amazing experience. The White Hart is and always will be a fantastic place to come.

"Watch this space for updates, I'll be the first to let you know what's happening when it's happening."

The White Hart was one of 21 formerly owned by Wadworth but sold to Butcombe in 2020 for an 'undisclosed sum'.

The pub is set to celebrate the New Year with its own family event featuring live music which is also free for people to enter.
