A group of retired Gurkhas have opened a new nightclub, bar and restaurant in the town centre - and are on a quest to make Swindon a tourism hub.

Hanson Gauchan, co-owner of The Cow on Fleet Street, spoke with the Adver about the future of the town and what he hopes the new venue, which he has opened alongside a group of retired British Gurkha soldiers, will bring to the town.

He said: “During the weekend, people are going outside of Swindon, they are not entertaining in their own home town like it used to be, so we want to bring back those people in the same area and we can have a good atmosphere.

“I chose Swindon because I like this place, I see the good opportunity.

“We want to bring the life back into Swindon town, the new town so the people can enjoy it and have fun.

“It is going to be the best and happening place and one of the biggest venues in Swindon town.Swindon Advertiser:

“I like this place because I see the good opportunity in this place and also we have a lot of diversified population in the Swindon area, we chose the Swindon area because we see the market, we see the good market in the future."

The new venue is located right next to the Sir Daniel Arms Wetherspoons in the town centre.

The Cow opened with its 'soft launch' event on New Years Eve and is formed of a restaurant, bar and, in Mr Gauchan’s own words, a semi-club located on the ground floor.

In March, the first floor of the venue, which is named YOLO, opens as a fully-fledged night club and function hall.

Both the Cow and YOLO have a capacity of 600 each.

Mr Gauchan told the Adver that partygoers can expect celebrity appearances at the new club which he described as Swindon’s 'premier venue'.

“Swindon is a historic place and so we would like to make this place not only a new town but we want to represent this place and we want to make it a tourism hub.”

If the Cow and YOLO go to plan, Mr Gauchan and his business partners do not plan to stop there, teasing of potential events being hosted at Swindon Town Football Club in the future.
