Police have launched an investigation after a person was killed by a train.
Officers raced to Pangbourne railway station in Berkshire on Thursday night after multiple reports of a casualty on the train tracks nearby the area.
It caused severe disruption to train services through Swindon for the rest of the evening, with most services cancelled.
Despite the emergency services arriving at the scene including paramedics, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Pangbourne railway station at 6.11pm, January 4, to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended and a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"British Transport Police are working closely with Thames Valley Police to establish the circumstances leading up to their death."
The incident caused several trains to be cancelled on Thursday evening and Great Western Railway advised those planning on travelling to only do so if absolutely necessary.
