A dog lover has recalled the moment she thought her beloved English Bulldog was going to die in a frenzied attack.

10-year-old Frank was mauled by what his owner Ruth Lockwood, 67, describes as a German Shephard/Akita cross as she walked Frank and her other dog Lottie, a one-year-old Frenchie.

Frank was left with multiple lacerations, caused by the attacking dog's teeth, which needed to have drains fitted to them to keep them open, and was due to have surgery on Thursday.

The entire incident, which took place at Moredon Fields off Akers Way on Thursday, January 11, left Ruth shaken and upset.

Ruth and her two dogs were walking in the area at around 1.45pm when she saw a 'grey back German Shepard' charging towards her from the other side of the field, with its owners a young man and woman running behind it.

"It came hurtling towards us and all three of us froze.

"It ran straight up to Frank and within a second just grabbed him above his neck and back, picked him up and started shaking him around like a piece of meat.

"I was absolutely mortified, I have never heard Frank cry ever,  but he was crying and at one point I thought I was going to lose him, I just kept thinking that the wound in his chest from the tumour surgery was going to be ripped open.

"Now he's so subdued. He is the most docile lovable dog, he’s my soulmate, it breaks my heart to see him like this."

Ruth said that after Frank was finally released the other dog's owners did agree to pay for any treatment Frank might need and gave her their contact details.

But after vets confirmed Frank had received multiple lacerations that would need further treatment, Ruth discovered the number provided was 'dead' and that they didn't appear to be living at the address given.

But on top of the financial costs, Ruth says she has been left shaken by the entire ordeal and worried about what Frank's attacker might do next.

Wiltshire Police are investigating the incident and have urged anyone with information to contact 101 and quote the crime reference number 54240003928.
