A woman has vowed never to return to Swindon’s Asda stores after it took her more than ten minutes to pay for her petrol this week.

Lynette had a long wait when she tried to fill her car with fuel at Asda in West Swindon on Wednesday, with more than 20 cars clogging the forecourt.

She had visited on her lunch break and found that although there were four payment points, only one was open.

The queue to pay led to cars backing up at the pumps, which only worsened while Lynette was in the store attempting to pay.

Speaking to the Adver, Lynette said: “Bye-bye, Asda, I've stopped using your shops because they are dirty, expensive and understaffed and now I won't be using your petrol stations either.

“West Swindon Asda had one person taking payments so the forecourt is crammed with people that can't pay and others that can't use the pumps because the people before them can't pay.

“The whole forecourt was full of cars back to the road and there were four payment points but only one was open.

“Everywhere was blocked because of the queue to pay and people behind couldn't fill up because the pumps weren't being cleared back to zero, because the previous customers were still waiting to pay.”

Lynette fears that the problems will not change until customers decide to go elsewhere for their petrol, so she has vowed not to return to Swindon’s Asda superstores.

“I've stopped using the store because of the lack of tills open and the large queues there and my 84-year-old mum can't cope with it all, so I take her to Morrisons now,” she said.

“I filled up my car at another garage on Wednesday evening and I won't use Asda again.

“When will Asda realise that if they don't offer a good service their customers will go elsewhere.

“The owners and managers won't change things till they lose customers.”

An Asda spokesperson said: "Hundreds of drivers fill up at these pumps every day and we're not aware of any similar complaints.”

Two of Asda’s supermarket competitors in Swindon currently have their petrol stations closed which has only added to the build-ups.

Sainsbury’s fuel station on Paddington Drive in Bridgemead has been shut since Tuesday, January 2, and will remain closed until Friday, January 26.

The Tesco petrol station which is located on Ocotal Way has not been operating since Monday, January 15, reopening on Monday, January 22.
