Pictures have emerged of a fountain of water erupting in a field next to a pumping station in Swindon.

The "surprisingly high" jet was spotted by residents close to Great Moorleaze Farm, next to the Marsh in Wanborough .

Facebook users commenting on the situation were unsure of the cause.

But a Thames Water spokesperson told the Adver on Wednesday: "We received reports of a burst water main by Great Moorleaze Farm on Sunday, January 21.

"We currently have teams en route to investigate and address the issue.

"Following recent weather events, our frontline teams are incredibly busy responding to customer calls and we're sorry it is taking longer than normal to attend.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to provide assurance, we will work to make repairs as quickly and safely as possible."

Ridegway Ward councillor and Swindon Conservative group leader Gary Sumner wrote on Monday: “I was surprised at the height of the jet in the field next to their pumping station - and then equally surprised to hear it would take Thames Water until Wednesday to visit!”
