Police have shared more details after one of Swindon's busiest roads was closed for hours on Thursday evening.

Motorists reported being stuck after Great Western Way in West Swindon was closed following an incident just before 5.30pm.

Wiltshire Police has now issued an update, explaining what had happened on the A3102 to cause such significant disruption.

A spokesperson said: "We responded to reports of a five-car collision on the A3102, near Juno Way, Swindon just before 5.30pm Wednesday afternoon."

"A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"The road was closed for around 3 hours while recovering took place."

The spokesperson added that no arrests were made.

This crash was one of two crashes near the Junction 16 roundabout that caused rush hour delays on Wednesday.

At roughly the same time, a crash also happened on the A3102 Swindon Road, just before the Sally Pussey's Inn, which is known for being something of an accident black spot.

This was cleared quickly.
