The following cases were heard at Swindon Magistrates' Court in January.

WALCOT: Joshua Bedford, of Frobisher Drive, has been sentenced for three offences.

The 35-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to stealing two eye cream moisturisers worth £37.50 altogether from a man in Oxford on November 20, 2023. For this offence, he must pay £37.50 in compensation.

The defendant also pleaded guilty to stealing food worth £59.48 from B&M Bargains in Swindon on October 7, 2023, and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress towards a woman in Oxford on November 20, 2023.

He must pay £20 in compensation to B&M. For the threatening behaviour, he has been jailed for eight weeks because, court documents note, that the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders, it was an unprovoked attack of a serious nature, and probation are not prepared to work with him in the community.

SWINDON: Mark Smith, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The 39-year-old pleading guilty to the offence, which was directed at a woman in the Rodbourne Travelodge on January 24, 2024, and received a £40 fine.

M4: Borislav Branzikov, of Becontree Avenue in Dagenham, has been sentenced for driving offences.

The 55-year-old pleaded guilty to using a Mercedes Sprinter which had metal overhanging the rear of the trailer and obscuring the van’s lights at Junction 15 of the M4 on June 9, 2023, without insurance while disqualified from driving.

He received a 12-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months “because the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders”, and must carry out 120 hours of unpaid work as well as up to 20 rehab activity days.

He has been banned from driving for 12 months, fined a total of £383, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs as well as £154 to fund victim services.

DEVIZES: Matthew Derrick, of Moyne Close, has been sentenced for theft from a shop.

The 37-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to stealing various meats worth £202 in total from Sainsbury’s in Devizes on September 14, 2023.

He must pay £202 in compensation.

DEVIZES: Kyle Wood-Woolley, of Church View in Etchilhampton, has been sentenced for being drunk and disorderly in public.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence, which occurred in the Market Place in Devizes on December 16, 2023.

He received a £40 fine and must also pay £85 in court costs and £16 to fund victim services.

BRADFORD-ON-AVON: Mark Stobart, of Messina Avenue in London, has been sentenced for causing actual bodily harm.

The 61-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to assaulting a woman in Bradford-on-Avon on June 20, 2023.

He will be sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court on February 28, 2024.

DEVIZES: Samuel Sneyd, of Victoria Road, Kennet and Avon Canal, has been sentenced for theft from a shop.

The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to stealing two packs of Carlsberg Special Brew lager worth £19 altogether from Sainsburys in Devizes on November 27, 2023.

He must pay back the value of the stolen goods in compensation.

WARMINSTER: Steven Down, of Wiltshire Barton in Frome, has been sentenced for two offences.

The 47-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine and stealing children's toys worth £49.99 from WH Smith in Warminster on November 3, 2023.

He received a community order that requires him to carry out up to 20 rehab activity days, pay an £80 fine, and pay £85 in court costs as well as £114 to fund victim services.

The Class A drug has been forfeited and destroyed.
