The M4 was partially closed after a car smashed into the central reservation near Swindon.

At around 12.20pm on Wednesday, January 31, emergency services were called to the motorway heading westbound between junctions 15 and 16, near Wroughton.

This followed a one-vehicle crash in which the car collided with the central reservation of the carriageway.

No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

Traffic was initially held because of the incident, before one lane was closed while police and recovery crews dealt with the car.

A spokesperson for the force said: “At around 12.20pm on Wednesday, January 31, we responded to a collision on the M4 between junctions 15 and 16 after a car collided with the central reservation.

“There were no reported injuries.”

During this time lengthy queues formed heading westbound towards junction 16 from Swindon.

Traffic remained heavy in the area for around an hour, as motorists were funnelled into two lanes, before eventually clearing.
