Two people were arrested after a high-speed chase in which they allegedly fled armed police at more than 100mph in residential areas.

Officers executed a tactical stop on a red Audi S3, near Piccadilly roundabout in Swindon, during the early hours of Thursday, February 1.

Two of the car’s tyres were punctured using a stinger on Eldene Drive, leading to the stop.

This came after a chase in which the vehicle reportedly led officers through Dorcan, Walcot and Eldene, driving at over 100mph in a 40mph zone.

Police say the car travelled at more than 90mph through red traffic lights, drove on the wrong side of roundabouts, and sped through residential estates with its lights turned off.

Officers initially believed the Audi was being used for drug dealing in the Eldene estate.

Armed Response and Roads Policing Units followed the vehicle on Dorcan Way before it suddenly made off at 80mph.

Following the pursuit, a man in his 40s from Swindon was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

Following a search of the vehicle, he was further arrested for intent to supply Class A drugs.

A woman in her 30s from Swindon was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

Both remain in custody for questioning.
