Two historic Swindon pubs remain on the market six months after being listed.

The Duke of Edinburgh on Cricklade Road had been serving beers to residents for over 150 years before its closure two years ago.

It was announced in February 2022 that the popular watering hole would close, finally shutting on March 31 of that year.

The pub was then listed on the market by Arkell’s Brewery in July 2023 along with The Boundary House in Moredon.

Swindon Advertiser: The Boundary House also is still up for sale. The Boundary House also is still up for sale.

It remains listed with Whitmarsh Lockhart commercial property advisors with offers in the region of £500,000 being considered.

Full planning consent has been sought to turn the pub into four one-bedroom flats, and for four new-build flats.

The Boundary House, which closed in February 2022, also remains for sale with Whitmarsh Lockhart and offers close to £750,000 will be considered.

A full planning application has been submitted comprising 4 one-bedroom flats with 6 residential three-bedroom houses.

A statement from Arkell's chairman James Arkell at the time of the closures said: "It is with much regret that since Covid has accelerated the demise of these two pubs.

"The downward pressure of overheads and other costs have made them uneconomical for a management or tenanted public house.

“They have been with Arkell’s for many years and it is with great regret that it has come to this."
