Heavy rain has disrupted train services in Swindon as floodwater has taken a route out of use.

GWR has confirmed that flooding on the railway between Swindon and Chippenham has blocked the line that runs until Bath Spa.

The travel company has said that train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or diverted with disruption expected throughout the rest of the morning.

A GWR spokesperson said: "We apologise for the disruption to your journey today."

No diversion or alternative travel arrangements have yet been put in place.

This follows disruption elsewhere caused by a signalling fault at Gloucester.

This fault meant that all services between London Paddington and Cheltenham Spa via Swindon and Gloucester have been potentially cancelled, delayed or revised.

CrosCountry and Stagecoach bus services were deployed to help people get to their destinations.

The fault has been fixed but Great Western Railway has advised that disruption is still expected until midday.

The Met Office warned of heavy rain throughout Thursday and well into Friday morning and advised customers delays to public transport were likely.
