Things went from bad to worse for one family who ended up stranded in a broken down car on the M4.

Officers from Wiltshire Police's Roads Policing Team (RPU) were initially called to help the Huyundai's occupants after it had broken down in a live lane of the busy motorway on Thursday, February 8.

The car's owners had packed it to the brim as they were in the middle of moving house.

But the routine traffic stop ended with the car being seized once it was discovered that the driver was no longer entitled to drive in the UK.

The incident was posted on the Wiltshire Specialist Operations Twitter page, which covers developments from both Wiltshire Police's Roads Policing and Armed Response teams.

The tweet said: "RPU were called to deal with a broken down vehicle in a live lane on the M4. The car was fully loaded as the occupants were moving house.

"Once we'd made the scene safe, we discovered the driver's entitlement to drive in the UK had expired, and the vehicle was seized."
