A former nail salon in Gorse Hill could be taken over by a gaming and amusement arcade.

Charlie Edwards Leisure runs an arcade in a shop at 78 Cricklade Road. But the business is soon to be leaving that property, and it has applied for permission to take over a different shop along the road at number 120.

That used to be the Matt Martin nail bar, but the application by the entertainment company says the building has been vacant since December last year.

The application is for a change of use, and also to be able to change the front of the building, using similar signage, branding and window displays to the firm's existing shop.

The plans show that the existing wall separating the nail salon from an office at the rear of the building, originally a terraced house, would be removed.

That will create one long room, lined on either side with amusement and gaming machines; a storeroom and lavatory will be retained.

No decision has been made on the proposal, but one should be made by the end of March.

Comments on the application can be made until Thursday February 29 using the reference S/24/0118 on the council’s website.
