A power cut has affected homes in Swindon.

An unplanned outage has cut the electricity supply to neighbours on Maunsell Way, Kellsboro Avenue, Wharf Road, Falkirk Road and part of the Wroughton Pump Track and Common Farm Woods on the borough's outskirts.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks' website states that the problem, which occurred due to a fault in the underground network, was first reported at 8.03am on Sunday and an engineer is currently on-site.

Power should be restored to the SN4 postcode area by 3.03pm today.

An SSEN spokesperson said: "We're very sorry for the power cut and are aware of a fault on our local network affecting several homes.

"Our engineers are in your local area and working hard to get your power restored as soon as possible.

"This is the most common type of fault we see and our teams are very experienced in dealing with these issues.

"In most cases, our engineers are able to restore power by simply replacing a fuse at the local substation."

No other outages have been reported in the Swindon borough.
