A pub has reopened its doors after being closed for almost a year and a half.

The Cross Keys in Wanborough is opening its doors to punters once again today (Friday, February 16).

The pub had previously closed 'for good' - according to villagers and a representative of the former landlords - on October 7, 2022.

Adam, 51 and Sonja Travers, 40 are the new landlords of the pub and have been trying to open it since December but an issue with the gas supply prompted a delay.

The couple and two of their daughters spent time travelling to Jamaica, Egypt, Singapore, Bali, Florida and the Dominican Republic before moving into the pub less than two weeks ago.

Adam said: “We are really excited we just want to get open, we have had a great response with lots of people wanting us to be open.

“It is just a little bit more difficult than usual, it is always hard work trying to open a pub.

“It is your life, it is not just a pub.

“This pub just has masses of potential, it is a beautiful pub and we hate to see businesses close.”

The family have travelled to in the time it has taken to fix the gas board.

Adam has been running pubs for over 30 years and Sonja for the last 12 alongside him.

They had been looking for the right pub to take on and decided to take on the Cross Keys due to its location and the building itself.

The couple are opening the pub to the public for two days will only be serving drinks while they have then chance to meet locals.

They will then close again while work is carried out in the kitchen and will start serving food from Thursday, February 22.
