Wiltshire Police has confirmed it is still investigating the death of a pedestrian in Swindon more than two years ago.

On Monday, January 30, 2022, a man in his 30s was involved in a crash with a motorcycle in Drakes Way at around 8.35pm.

Paramedics took him to hospital but he later died.

The 19-year-old motorcyclist went to hospital with a suspected broken arm.

At the time, Wiltshire Police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

A spokesperson said: "We’d like to hear from any witnesses to the collision who have not already spoken to police, as well as anyone who may have CCTV or dash cam footage in the area of Greenbridge and Drakes Way which may be relevant to our enquiries."

But just over two years later, police have confirmed there have been no significant updates in their investigation.

In a statement provided on February 15 of this year, a police spokesperson said: "There’s no update at this stage - the investigation is still ongoing."

The force also confirmed that to date, there have been no arrests or charges related to this incident.

Police were seen testing the road conditions in the immediate aftermath of the crash in early February 2022 when a collision investigation van drove towards Queens Drive at speed before slamming on the brakes after passing the turn-off for the cinema.

The vehicle then reversed back up to the Greenbridge roundabout before doing the same manoeuvre again.

Further tests were carried just over a month later in March when Wiltshire Police closed Drakes Way to the public.

Swindon Borough Council vehicles could be seen blocking the route from the Greenbridge roundabout heading towards town, and the Queen's Drive roundabout heading towards Greenbridge Retail Park.

Police cars could be seen further down the road near the turning to Empire Cinema and Buzz Bingo.

At the time locals feared there had been another serious crash, but Wiltshire Police soon allayed those fears by confirming it was part of investigations into the circumstances surrounding what happened in January.

A spokesperson said: "The closure of Drakes Way in Swindon last night was carried out in conjunction with Swindon Borough Council to enable our Forensic Collision Investigators to carry out some testing activities to assist with the investigation into the tragic road traffic collision on January 31 in which a man in his 30s lost his life after being struck by a motorcycle."
