The council has responded to road safety concerns raised by the mum of a motorcyclist who died on Dorcan Way.

Tina Hyde told the Adver that while leaving flowers for her son Luke Coram on Snodshill roundabout, where he died in 2015, she noticed debris from more recent crashes on the same spot and does not want other families to experience the same devastating loss that she has gone through.

She has called for changes to the roundabout.

Councillor Chris Watts, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet member for transport, said: “Dorcan Way is one of the town’s main road corridors and, as there are limited paths or crossings close to it, there is less of a pedestrian safety issue.

“The speed limit is clearly signposted and the accident statistics reported to us by the police show that there were two accidents at the Snodshill roundabout over the last five years resulting in slight injuries to those involved.

“We take road safety extremely seriously and will take action if we think there are particular road safety concerns in an area.

"This was demonstrated when councillors supported reducing the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph along a section of Queens Drive.

“If we believe road safety is a particular issue along any road then we will look at it, but we need to have clear evidence that this is the case.”
