A supermarket shopper injured a member of staff before leaving with stolen goods, police have said.

Officers responded to reports from the Co-op on Lowry Way just before 8pm on Sunday, February 18, which suggested that a man had become aggressive towards staff and threw a bottle at a member of staff.

This caused an injury to the employee's face.

The offender then left the scene without making any attempt to pay for items.

Police are appealing for the public to come forward with information about the incident.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "Anyone who witnessed the incident should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54240019770."

This branch of the supermarket chain in Old Town opened in the Gilbert Place housing development last spring after the company invested £500,000 into the new site.

More recently, the Co-op on Rodbourne Road closed after serving customers for more than 100 years.
