Swindon Borough Council are seeking urgent action after road markings were misspelt.
The parking space at a vehicle charging point on William Street was labelled as being for ‘eletric vehicles’ only.
Although the charging point was originally installed by Swindon Borough Council, the road markings had since been repainted by a contractor after gas works by Wales and West.
One resident on TikTok reacted to the spelling mistake, saying: "We need to divorce Swindon Borough Council, bring in the army, sort Swindon out."
But Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for Swindon, Craig Sperring explained: “We have been working in the William Street area of Swindon to upgrade the gas network.
“We completed our work and replaced the road surface where we had been digging.
“Contractors working on our behalf then replaced the road markings where we had been working and, unfortunately, have misspelt the word ‘electric’ along an EV charging location.
“Our team of bright sparks will be returning to replace the markings with the correct letters.”
A spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council said: “The markings were painted correctly by us when the charging point was installed.
“We have asked Wales and West to correct the road markings as a matter of urgency.”
