Swindon has been found to offer one of the cheapest pints of Guinness in the UK ahead of St Patrick's Day.

Hailed as Ireland's most iconic drink, hundreds of pubs across the UK will be offering Guinness on March 17, 2024, otherwise known as St Patrick's Day.

Every year, 13,000,000 pints of Guinness go down in just one day, and it remains one of the most popular pints in the world.

But if you want to celebrate St Patrick's Day on a budget this year, you're probably better off staying in Swindon.

Analysts at UK Debt Expert looked at hundreds of pubs across the UK and found that at an average price of £3.84, Swindon is one of the cheapest places in the UK for a pint of Guinness.

This uses February 2024 data from major pub chains across the UK – including Wetherspoons, O’Neills, Hungry Horse and Greene King.

But the average price of a pint in Swindon has risen by 10 per cent since last year when Guinness was priced at just £3.48.

Taking the official title of 'cheapest Guinness in the UK' in 2024 is Bolton, at £3.83 per price.

Swindon took second place, only one pence more expensive than Bolton.

Following that was Rotherham (£3.95), Stoke on Trent (£4.01), Swansea (£4.07) and Coventry (£4.10).

When looking at the most expensive pint of Guinness in the UK, it will come as a surprise to no one that London took the top spot at a whopping £5.73 for a pint!

Edinburgh was the second most expensive at £5.33, followed closely by Brighton at £5.11.

Overall, UK Debt Expert data revealed that the average price of a pint of Guinness has risen by eight per cent across the country over the last 12 months - a true sign of inflation in action.

“As we approach St Patrick’s Day, lots of people across the UK will be enjoying a pint of Guinness, since it’s synonymous with celebrations on the day itself across the world," said Maxine, McCreadle, personal finance expert at UK Debt Expert.

"However, as many people try and ‘split the G’ across the country, you can quickly rack up a hefty bill after drinking multiple pints of the dark Irish beer.

"Inflation has significantly pushed up the price of Guinness, one of the most beloved pints in the world, just like it has other beverages."
