Wiltshire Search and Rescue may be volunteer-led but that doesn't mean that the team members are not all highly trained.

The organisation is often brought in to search for missing persons or to rescue people from precarious situations, and part of that involves a lot of technical knowledge and expertise.

As a result, 16 of the emergency group's volunteers recently took part in 'water and rope' training which involved learning how to rescue people from rivers or inaccessible areas of terrain.

Photos of this training were posted onto the Wiltshire Search and Rescue Facebook group so that members of the public could get an idea of exactly what kind of situations they might need to help with, and exactly what knowledge they need.

A spokesperson said: "Last weekend 16 of our volunteers joined others from Oxfordshire, Hampshire and Avon & Somerset Search and Rescue for a weekend of water and rope training on Dartmoor.

"It was a great opportunity for Mountain and Lowland Rescue teams to share experiences and problem-solve scenarios together!"

The not-for-profit organisation has been called out 13 times so far this year.

It relies on its own fundraising, along with donations, grants and sponsorship from the public and companies.

All of its members are unpaid volunteers and it does not charge for its services.
