A young woman was killed after four vehicles were involved in a crash at Lydiard Plain. 

The B4696 Braydon Road, south of Ashton Keynes, was closed in both directions at around 2.15pm on Friday afternoon after emergency services were called to the crash. 

Witnesses reported seeing an air ambulance attend, and it was believed that several people had been hurt in the incident. 

Wiltshire Police who provided an update the following day, confirming that one of the drivers had lost her life. 

A spokesperson said: "The driver of one of the vehicles, a woman in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Her next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time.

"Two other people were taken to hospital to be treated for injuries, not thought to be life-threatening."

Reacting to news of the young woman's death, several members of the public shared their condolences. 

One said: "Thoughts and love with the family and emergency services. What a tragedy."

Another added: "Thinking of her family and friends at this incredibly sad time."

The B4696 was closed both ways from the Garsdon turn-off to the Purton turning.

Wiltshire Police, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue and South West Ambulance Service were in attendance.

The road remained closed for several hours with officers from Wiltshire Police carrying out traffic investigation work, but reopened on Friday evening/Saturday morning. 

The force is now looking for any witnesses who can help them with their investigations into the woman's death to get in touch.
