A major road in West Swindon remains shut to motorists as work to repair a burst water main continues.

Currently, Mead Way remains closed in both directions from the Stonehill Green turning to the Meads roundabout.

The Welton Road turning by KFC is also closed.

This follows both Mead Way and Great Western Way being blocked off by police on Friday morning after they became flooded and 'like rivers'.

Thames Water engineers quickly attended the scene and it was confirmed that a burst water main as the cause of the deluge.

A lot of the water was drained away quickly, but a big part of the Meads roundabout remained impassable throughout Friday.

But photos taken at the scene on Saturday show that improvements have been made, although there is still some surface water and mud on the road.

Construction workers from Thames Water were at the scene Saturday lunchtime to continue working on the issue.

It is not yet known when the road might be fully reopened.

Thames Water has been approached for an update.
