Members of the public will soon be able to enjoy a new trip boat on the waters of Wootton Bassett.

The arrival of the new Wilts and Berks Canal Trust boat, joining the in-operation and popular Dragonfly located in Wichelstowe, has been described as a 'monumental moment' for the organisation.

The boat arrived in March, and pictures taken by the Trust show the moment it was craned into position in the canal waterways of Wootton Bassett.

A spokesperson for the Trust said: "The delivery of our next trip boat went well, with a huge thanks to Bevan Transport and Ellis Crane Hire for such a smooth operation.

On its first trip, the boat which has been christened the Nonsuch, reached Hancock's Water where it turned to go back towards Templars Firs.

Steve Bacon, Royal Wootton Bassett branch chair, said: "We are Looking forward to our new trip-boat at Royal Wootton Bassett.

"As some of you may know, we have purchased a former day boat, that is licensed to carry 8 passengers plus a skipper and a second crew member.

"It will be renamed as ‘Nonsuch’ as a tribute to the late Vic Miller, whose legacy has paid for the boat as well as for canal restoration projects and land purchases in the town."
